Hi all, I've been having all sorts of fun latley up in the frozen north country.  Ice on the lakes is 10" thick with about 3" of snow on top and it's a great time to go ski flying.  I had a friend of mine snap some pics of me today as I did a fly by, and this one came out the best.  It was about  +12 F and light winds.  Great day for flying!  Take care,  Jim Chuk
PS  If you can figure out a way to stay warm, don't tie up the plane till spring.

Well I didn't bring any presents to these guys when I flew over them today.  This was about 10 miles from my place, in the same spot where I saw them about 2 weeks ago and this thime the camera worked.  It's a beaver pond, and one of the wolves was sleeping on the beaver house.  I think they were sleeping off a deer feast from last night.  A couple of friends of mine were ice fishing a few miles away, so I picked one of them up and the wolves were still there when we got back, so he got to see them to.

ok, I find those pics WAY COOL!   Flying in AK has been on my to-do list for some time... now it just moved up a few slots. Thanks for sharing these Jim!
Why focus on proving how great you are, when you could focus on becoming better?...

Yes it is cool flying up here in northern Mn,  I was up for 2.4 hrs yesterday but didn't see the wolves.  I went back over the same spot and saw fresh tracks there but the wolves wern't home.   I did see about 30 deer in different spots though.  Landed on a frozen lake where they have a seaplane base also.  We are getting another snow storm today and tomorrow, good thing I went yesterday.  Looks like another foot on the way.  It was about 15" deep in the woods yesterday if it keeps up snowing like it has been, it'll be a tough winter for the deer.  Take care,  Jim Chuk

Jim, wow, what a neat way to have fun flying in the winter!  Way cool photograph, tell the photographer thanks. And thanks for sharing those neat photos.  Where in N. MN are you?  International Falls,  Mil Lacs, Arrowhead Region?  I used to live in St. Charles and camped on a Crow Wing lake and  canoed the Boundary Waters.  I  sure miss that stuff living here  in Kansas.  You are in "God's Country" for sure.  Year around fun...if you know how to adapt.  The dinasours didn't.

Have a good New Year of flying!

Hi Paul, I'm about 4 miles N of Chisholm Mn.  That's about 55 miles NNW of Duluth and 70 miles S of International Falls.  Hibbing is about 10 miles to the SW.  We are right in the middle of iron mineing country.  You can fly for about 50 miles from one end of the mines to the other and you will either be over an old unused or newer active mine.  Funny thing is it's just a narrow strip for the most part, just a mile or two wide.  We are definatly haveing winter this year, we got 9" of snow last night and are supposed to get 4" to 8" tonight.  What a bad time for the snowplow on my pickup to go belly up, but thats what it did today when I was just about done plowing my yard.  I did get the hangar plowed out though so all is not lost!  Take care,  Jim Chuk

Thanks for your location  I.D. Jim.  I found Chisholm on my road atlas.  You ARE up  there in the northern part of the State.  Snowplow, skies on your plane, you seem  to have adapted to the weather.  I suppose you add a snow machine, skis, ice fishing equipment and  snow shoes to  your list of adaptation (fun) equipment.  Enjoy your flying and keep sending us photos of your area.  Have a prosperous new year while you are at it!

I just finished talking with my friend in Minneapolis, and he said that since early

this morning, all his wife has done is look through the kitchen window and the

snow is nearly waist high. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to

let her in...

an oldie but a goodie...regards Arthur
