A bust in the mouth

Chris Duncan (cpd), a.k.a. Eagle 1, is starting another phase of his aviation future.  Last year he completed his course of study at Wichita Area Technical Institute earning an AP & Powerplant degree and license.  He has owned four planes: modified version of a Legal Eagle, Quicksilver LSA trainer,  Mini-Max and now exclusively flies a Cessna 150.  His latest major step is in accepting a job with Lockeed in Georgia where he will work on the C-130 airframe modification program.

Chris left the Wichita, Kansas area earlier this week to begin his new life.  We hope to hear from him via posts on this board as well as perhaps returning for some more flying adventures with those of us who constantly battle the Huns.

To help send Chris off on his career, five of us old standbys treated him to breakfast at the Stearman Inn at Stearman Field (1K1) Saturday morning, May 28.  The planned fly-in  turned into a drive-in as marginal weather caused each pilot to arrive on four wheels rather than three.  Participants were Terry Alley (Kitfox Lite), Larry & Bea Hart (Rans Coyote), Bill Bailey (T-craft & former Mini-Max owner), Chris and myself, Paul Fiebich (AirBike Ace).

We treated Chris to not only breakfast but an abundance of ribbing attempting to make  up for all the opportunities we will miss in the future.  However, Bill will still be a good source of material.  Those present signed a card and presented Chris with a non-aviation gift that will help him through those lonely nights as a single man.  It is a drinking mug that could very well result in  him getting a  bust in the mouth. We were not sure of the cup size (but we  think it will hold 16 oz---what were YOU thinking?).

Things at the breakfast were going along pretty well as we spoke of old times flying and what was ahead for us all.  Breakfast was served in its usual casual style, the food is good the service... well its not bad to look at but lacks a bit in speed. When Paul brought out the parting gift you see in the above picture,  now being Paul and one not prone to spending a lot of money had found an old movie poster to wrap the gift in and not wanting to use up his supply of scotch tape closed the gift in duct tape which led to Chris taking about 15 minutes just to get the present open.  Now this did bring a great deal of humor to the table as he tried in vain to tear the tape, a knife was supplied and he made much better progress.  He then uncovering of the actual mug.......Chris looked at it for a while... we all sort of laughed and saw the humor in it.... but then...... Young.... Young and someway inexperienced Chris had to ask what it was...................Oh to be young.... well maybe not that young. We said why chris it is a mug..... he replied he knew it was a mug.... but what was the mug supposed to be........ we all then just shook our heads and hoped he might find out on his own.  I did talk to him today... he has made it to Nashville seems his Dodge wasn't made to haul a trailer full of stuff.

Bill,
You or Paul need to make sure Chris knows that all Beaver's aren't made by Dehavilland.

Hey guys: That´s not the way to teach a young man. What did you give him for the long trip? I hope not an inflatable doll

Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return

I believe you gentlemen have hit the nail on the head with the doll and much to my sadness we forgot the patch kit.  Chris thanked us in his usual manner and was happy that now he could drive in the car pool lane and go faster  I think Paul is forwarding him a manual on the doll..... poor ... poor .. chris
