Drained lake/ mud hole

The same evening I took the pictures of the Alien landing sites I took some pictures of Lizard lake. Some of you may remember me talking about Lizard lake in the past. I have landed on it in the winter when it was frozen. Its only three miles from me so I fly over it often.
Anyway there has been talk for years on trying to return the lake to what it once was, but no plan had ever been approved. The DNR, or conservation commission came up with the plan to drain the lake and let it set for a couple years, then fill it and stock it with fish. The thinking being that letting it set drained for two years would as the mud dries out shrink the mud down and gain a couple feet. Also keep the carp and bullheads out of the lake as they stir up the sediments.
I don't know....I think it may be a crock of crap. The lake is shallow because of all the mud in the bottom, but I don't think gaining a couple feet is going to make a huge difference. I know digging it out would be rather expensive, but the lake would be in great shape if it were done. The shoreline has some nice sand I remember it from when I was a kid, and flying over it now you cansee the sandy shoreline.
The first photo is a before shot taken last year and then a picture of the drained lake. The water you see has now almost completely disappeared, and I can't believe how green it has gotten...

a mile of road will take you a mile, a mile of runway can take you anywhere.

nice pics larry, you got the lake and some crop art. THey did the same thing to Viking Lake over by Red Oak IA several years ago and now that it has been full for the last several years it has less fish, no catfish, and still has vegitation problems.

likely story Larry. I'm betting the water left when you guy's blew holes in the dam trying to clear the hun's out. Those 20mm cannons on the MAX can be pretty awesome. lol........we'll keep your secret...........

Chris, your saying that I'm probably right? I just don't see how its going to make a difference. The DNR is the same bunch that thought it was a great idea to burn off part of a 160 acre prairie near here a few years back with 35 mph winds with gust higher. It got away from them( go figure ) and had to call a couple fire depts. The prairie was wet in places and a firetruck got stuck and burned up the trany trying to get out. One of the pissed off firefighters asked one of the DNR guys standing there if the wind whistled when it blew through his head
Gary, that's my story and I'm sticking to it
Most of the huns around here fly these things...Slow,but hard to get a bead on as they are always headed for the deck when they see you coming$%&*$#@

Hey Chris,
I sure hope "your seat cushion can be used as a floatation device in the unlikely event of a water landing".

Lake Ouachita - 40,000 acres
Lake Champlain - 313,000 acres or nearly 8 Lake Ouachita's
Jus' sayin'.
Oops, you win Ricardo. Wow, got to get down to Peru to see your beautiful country in person sometime.
BlueMaxAugust 19, 2011, 5:42pm
WOW ricardo, that shot is amazing!
Bob, size isnt everything, Ouachita is a picturesque little lake nestled deep in the ozarks south of boonville arkansas, I wasnt even aware of its existance till I crossed a ridge and there it was, one of the most memorable things I have seen from the air.

Yeah, I gotcha Chris. When you 'discover' a place yourself it makes it all the more special. I neglected to mention that Ouachita has a longer shoreline and many more islands and it's undeveloped, wild! My wife and I will have to fit it in on our ongoing 50 state tour, along with a jaunt down south to Peru. I'm just needling the flatlanders. The price they pay for living in a state that's one big airfield.

Ok, so I should have titled this drained mud hole....but in my defense we don't have huge lakes here... not trees as far as the eye can see either. Corn and soybeans as far as you can see, roads almost every square mile...and Wind turbines, cell phone towers and some other little damn towers that are just plain annoying .......
Phil, no mountains either almost as flat as Kansass.....
Ricardo, wish it was coffee spilled on my wing..There's a reason I now refer to my miniMAX as patches....

Thanks, the place has incredible sights especially at sunrise, is located at 12,500 ft high. Unfortunately not suitable for a Minimax.
