well I was doing some low level buzzing yesterday, it was so good to get back in the seat after so many days of not so good weather. When my mission was over i made my way back to the airport when I turned down wind I heard something snap, when I turned base I seen what had happened as my fan stopped. Thank goodness I was were I was when it took place

Another reason to convert to free air cooling!  Glad you are down and safe.

Do you have to take the fan tower off when you convert to free air cooling or is it just a matter of removing the belt and leaving everything else in place?
I see that LEAF is selling a cooling schroud for the 447's in their catalog.

I only recommend the fiberglass Supercowl that George offers.  

Yes you do have to remove and/or modify the fan tower.  There are many posts about this subject within the last year including posts with photos of my converted engine.

Little bit of money and labor for cheap insurance.  Never have to worry about a fan belt slipping or breaking again.  Temps run cooler and more consistent with the Supercowl in place and as I always say...seems to almost cool too much.

very glad i was where i was when it broke and the thing has 21 hours on it.think i am going to put a supercowl on it
