Was wondering if anyone has used douglas fir for wing spars. I know it's a little be heavier then sitka but it is stronger.I have a good lumber yard close by that has very good wood.

That's what I am using. I have used it for the ribs and will use it for the rest of the plane.

Speaking of Doug Fir for spars:
Neil,
Between a scheduling "train wreck" and some bad weather I didn't make it to Austin's in Denver. I'm going to have to try El Paso or Tucson for Doug Fir to finish my spars.

That mean there's still some left for me! Sorry to hear about your woes.

thats what I used, and the guys a the yard cut it to size and put the proper angle on them for 10 dollars. 180 hrs later and a couple of real hard landings, they still work. I went this route too because I bought mini kits and the shipping alone for the spars was more than what I paid total.

Thanks for all the input everybody! I'd been thinking of all Douglas Fir with Mahogany and Birch plywood, and this discussion kind of settled that for me!
