UL Accident in Peru

The president of an  UL club(founded in 1981)  near Lima Peru,  suffered an accident while trying to land on its home field.
The single seat plane, a Carrera, was almost totally destroyed by fire after it hit high tension cables during landing. The plane caught on fire and  fell in an open area inside a house under construction. The pilot, a 84 years old retired naval pilot, was helped to move away from the plane when some of his cloth was already on fire. He suffered 2nd degree burns on different parts of his body and was airlifted to a Naval Hospital. He didn't suffer any other injuries.
He's very lucky to be alive.
In the past I had encourage the members of that club to install safety orange balls on the wires but they never did it. I hope they are convinced now.
The accident plane, which I had flown many years ago, had a 5 gallon fuel tank behind the pilot’s seat plus two additional tanks on each wing.
Stay safe and always check your physical condition.

Lucky guy !
I would just wish to be fit in age of 84 to make accidents and walk away like this.

Ouch!  I think he was lucky to have been able to crawl out of that inverted wreckage. What an unfortunate ending for the plane and perhaps his flying career.  He is indeed fortunate to have escaped alive.

Unfortunate indeed. However, he lived up to the expectations we all place on ourselves--to not hurt anyone else.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

Unfortunatelly the injured pilot past away today at the Naval Hospital were he was recovering from skin burns and infections.
Don´t know the exact reasons of his dead but at his age of 82 things get more complicated.
A good friend and pilot has gone west.

That is very sad news. I wish him God speed to his new wings.

i am sorry for your loss and extend my deepest sympathies to his family.
You don't need to know anything about flying inorder to pilot a plane.  You do need to know something about flying fly inorder to pilot a plane twice!
