Huns attack an APV

While out for a pleasure flight south of Haysville, Kasas, (first time in over two weeks due to high winds) I saw off in the distance heavy black smoke.  Thinking that the Huns had struck during the early evening, I banked that way to offer some defense.

Too late, a lone Hun had strafed the expressway disabling a lightly Armored Personnel Vehicle. A couple of photos was all I could manage, at the same time the fire fighting equipment arrived.  I have no knowledge of the fire's cause or the disposition of those aboard the vehicle.

With improving flying weather, I assume more of these rogue attacks will occur.  We must be vigilant.

Thanks for the suggestion Tom, I did send them to the local TV station but most likely it was too late (8:30 PM) for them to get the info for a thorough story on the 10:00 news.  The fire was about 20 miles from their station. I just happened to be close by and had my high-power, high dollar, shirt pocket sized hand held digital camera.  You get a lot when purchasing a re-conditioned camera for $100!  I have on occasion submitted other photos such as grass and house fires plus the beautiful sunsets we have here in Kansas and those have been accepted (free of course).

Nice catch Paul!

It figures that the winds have been setting records this year. I'm not flying any more as an airplane owner than I did as a renter.
Gotta change that.

Weather was acceptable Saturday, I flew to Ponca City for Breakfast.  Photo and text to follow as soon as I get caught up with other things.

All I need to do now is put the cowl back on the plane... give it a good once over to make sure I didn't forget anything when I was putting it back together and I can fly later this week.

OK I have to suck up my pride and just ask you "what the hell is a HUN?"  What am I just not getting other than what most single 50 year old guys are not? LOL
Guess I've been spending too much time romancing my plane!

During WW1, the enemy German forces became known as "Huns".
Google it and you'll learn lots.

I know the WWI term just the context that Paul uses it in many of his great stories I'm not to sure about.

For the purposes of Paul's literary escapades, the Hun is the imaginary adversary that gives our purely recreational sorties a romantic purpose.

As men, we never really grow up, do we?

Now I am shocked... first ... Paul never exaggerates he embellishes... and as for the huns that give us fits at the Selby aerodrome they are most assuredly real to the extent that they have brought a few planes down on the field... and have caused me to run into a hangar once.  They are evil nearly invisible people in German planes that have a hidden base somewhere down by Udall.  You as a nearly new pilot to our group simply haven't seen them yet..... but you willllllll   ohhhhh yesssss you will ....LoL

What about the hun that chased you into a light pole avenger? Seems he followed us home and tried to strafe us as we landed........we had to take an evasive turn through the trees and hide the plane in a hay field if I remember right?

The huns here in north Iowa are busy putting holes in the fuel pump on my naval assault vehicle and adding invisible weights to the tail of my tbird  making it impossible to balance it!

When in doubt just use full throttle.... it might not help but it will end the suspense.

Must have been a Hun then that nearly blew me to Nebraska today. Those red planes must have big engines.

As usual, I went flying in stupid high winds 16 gusting at 22--but hey, it was right down the runway. The problem--as it always is at Selby--was that the winds are double or triple 150 to 200 feet AGL.

So true CPD so true... and yes a tiny little gnome hun will sit on your shoulder and whisper .... you can fly... really you can.... don't let the 50 mph winds tell you that you can't.... look how sunny it is.....   You have to be aware at all times they come in all shapes and sizes
