Its such a great thing that flying making friends over borders and countries !
When I bought my Simonini powered ICP Bingo (the CH701 Italian "version") I was looking for all sorts of info on the web to learn more about this engine, since its not so common. I came across Fred in France who is Swedish and he was just installing his Simonini Victor 2 into his Avid. Than soon the comments of his website lead to speaking to Ricardo in Spain, who has exactly the same ICP Bingo that I have. All three of us shared the problem of fouled plugs of the inverted engine, which is been sorted out. Also fuel and other issues are much easier to solve when you are not alone and speaking to someone.
I always wanted to visit Barcelona, because of Gaudi. Barcelona is a very nice city, relaxed people, oh yeah a lotsa tourist, but its OK. Good food, tons of walks.
And of course Ricardo was so nice to pick us up yesterday morning and we went to see his plane and actually have a flight over the local airfield and a short to Montserrat Monastry which is on a hill-.
I noticed that the Bingo runs on very low EGT and start is difficult. It needs more power and the sound of it just is not right. So when we landed I pulled the plug from his airplane and it was black from tar. Ricardo is using 1:40 mix which is very rich for this engine. Also carb needle were moved down one step, maybe one more required. Plugs needs good cleaning, but he is not so technical so we get a bit dirty together. Also the two carbs cables where loose so the carbs valves did not move the same time.
I enjoyed to work on it a bit for the flying he gave me. At 13.00 we were back at Barcelona and continued our tour.
