Stearman Field (1K1) in Benton, Kansas held their 7th annual fly-in last weekend. Every year it is bigger and better! And the best thing is that it is less than a 20 minute flight away.
The pilot breakfast this year was staggering, take a look at that plate. I got everything on there except the pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Like I could have eaten any more. Now maybe Jake could, but not me! And the breakfast was free for pilots who flew in.
Since this is a combination car show and fly-in , about 75 cars were displayed, including one Lambroghini Kit car. It was hard to count the number of planes because someone was always in the air and so many were coming and going. Four Army helicopters showed up too.
A band played music from the '70s through the 2000s and they were really good! My AirBike was an attraction for kids (and adults) as I let many of them sit in the cockpit and manipulate the controls. At times there was even a line! One little girl was so enthralled, that she cycled through four times!
Events like this are a lot of fun, before leaving one of these be sure to thank the host for holding it. I left about 3:00 but the event went on well into the evening with more bands and a steak fry.
The photos below will give you a taste of the event.
