If you have an opportunity to visit UK , dont miss to visit Duxford Imperial War Museum . It is a full one day program amazing good museum. And.... you can fly many planes....including the Tiger Moth trainer. (video will come) They have 3 of them now, fully original, and its a real treat. Does not come cheap but once in a lifetime.... definately worth.
Duxford has a separate hangar for US WWII and recent planes.

Hey Peter, be careful, that prop will bite you, LOL. Surely you got some video. You have to post the link for us.

Fly safe and have fun.

The first and only time I swung a Tigermoth prop was 35 years ago...when I was 16...then I jumped into the front cockpit for a flight down the River Murray...the 30 min flight cost my Dad
$5-00.....yes the price of a hamburger.
Today...at 51.....I would love to be PIC of a tiger...

Arthur,
You need to come to Derby and try your hand at chasing the Red Baron in the Tiger Moth:

a mile of road will take you a mile, a mile of runway can take you anywhere.

Hey Peter that was FANTASTIC...thankyou for sharing your flight ...looking for Part 2 as soon as you post it
the engine in a TigerMoth is the 130HP Gypsy Major....some history here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Gipsyand here
http://museumvictoria.com.au/c.....s-ii-tiger-moth-1939They are a very thirsty engine burning about 32 litres an hour at approx 75knots Thay do sound fantastic.
I was told when just a boy the Difference between the DH82 and the DH82A was that the DH82 had a timber fuselage and the DH 82A had the steel fuselage. I have seen a DH 60 with a wooden fuselage but all the tigers in Australia (and theres heaps of them) are all steel fuselage one
try here for some more tigermoth info
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Tiger_Mothan excellent Tigermoth in Australia sells for about $130,000.....and an average one about $90,000 -$70,000...and a wreck on a trailer sells for $30,000 if you can find one
I have seen a pilot almost hurt himself very badly....landing in a cross wind at a fly inn....he dragged the wingtip with full rudder at least 80 metres....then nearly hit the cattle pen (steel tubing) and missed the powerline by 12 feet....he was off the centreline of the runway by at least 40 degrees due to wing gust....he hit full throttle and full rudder and dragged the wingtip for at least 80 meters....it was very scary to watch.
Having said that....if I win the lottery...I would have a Tigermoth Instantly...!!!! I love them... regards Arthur

Arthur, Curtiss Jenny should give the same feeling should not it ? I am teasing one on an Italian Ultralight for sale website, price is going down from 15K EUR, now I think its 12K.
http://annunci.ultraleggero.it/annuncio/jenny-curtiss-e-b-aHow this thing is doing a 50 HP 1000 CC Suzuki G10 engine, I dont know. Maybe its so cheap because it cant climb.

Wow Peter....you could be my wingman anytime....LOL (Topgun the movie...LOL)
This Video......is the best thing Ive seen for ages...and the guy who let you fly his plane simply changed his attitude towards you through out the flight....he could be a good friend very easily....he trusted you and thats a great experience for you and for him.
WELL done ...what a great day to be out and about flying over such wonderful countryside with WW2 history.
To fly a Tigermoth from prop start to engine shutdown is certainly a dream for me.
have you done any research on the airframe.....as maybe a famous pilot learnt to fly on it in 1939-45....

I guess everyone loves the Tigermoth. I was lucky enough to have a flight in one many years ago. Strangely, one of my standout memories from that flight was using the speaking tube to talk to the pilot! It was quite funny, bellowing into a piece of tube instead of a comm set.
But as a forum for dedicated aircraft builders, has anyone considered constructing one of the F****r R80 Moth Replicas here:
http://www.fisherflying.com/in.....emid=5 Or has anyone here flown one of the dark side's replica Tigers?
I've probably said a bad word now But it does look a fun aeroplane, and it does have 2 seats. and it does share something of the Ison gene pool. You'd certainly need a 4 stroke engine, though - a 2 stroke just wouldn't sound right in a moth.

Bruce,
Air-Bike Ace (Paul Fiebichpv) is working on one. He's so skilled with a plane with one wing that I can only imagine how good he will be with two wings. I'm sure he will become a double Ace as soon as he gets it flying.

Thanks Dick - that's excellent!
I'd be really interested to follow that project if possible. Any danger of some postings on it Paul? Here or maybe on another site?
