Click the link below to view my second 7-minute video, this one really "smokes!" Climb aboard, buckle your seat belt then hang on! For best effect: place a desktop fan in front of you and turn it and the volume on full blast. When the video is done, do what any happy AirBiker does: picks the bugs out of his teeth!

Very nicely done Paul. Thanks for the post. Ya gotta love all those great big fields in your neck of the woods.

Very nice Paul. Saw this on FB...The fan does add to the realism of the experience somewhat. I was going to put my leather helmet on also, but it was outside in the cold, cold shed
Thanks for the video

Nice Video and cute music. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, Obama and his EPA flunky want to speak to you about that smoke pollution. Something about permits and your carbon allowance.

Kansas is really just one big airfield, you gotta love those open spaces and multitude of areas for off-airport landings. I have used a few of them. The smoke trail is also part of my navigation system, at the end of a flight I just turn around and follow the smoke back home! The smoke oil is bonafide EPA approved and is the same stuff the air show performers use, it is the Super-Dri Aviation Smoke Oil.
Cold and snowy weather is upon us here in Kansas, that limits my flying time to about 30 minutes when my onboard "biological stick shaker" takes over and I need to land. I am tempted to fly off the snow without skis. Anyone done that?
As of the last flight (when the video was taken) I am five hours shy of that 1000 hour milestone on my AirBike. I am looking for a couple more good days before the year is out.

Paul, yes, all the time. Just can't be deep, and if it is you just get the snow blower out and move it

Hey Paul, liked your video, as far as flying off of snow, sure you can do it. More than 3 or 4" might be a problem though. I went flying today off my strip in an Aeronca Chief 11BC. Has the O-200 conversion on the 85 HP engine. Performs really nice in the cold Mn air. Was +6 F today and I tried out the electrically heated seat pad I used to use in the Himax years ago. I rigged up a motorcycle battery on the pass. side and plugged it into there. Worked great. Got a half hour in and wasn't froze afterwards. We have disc brakes on the Chief, and the brakes can freeze though. My partner in the plane found that out last week when he landed at the airport after taking off in 3" of snow at my strip. Didn't get a ground loop, but came close. I was wearing a snowmobile suit, and slid the seat pad into the suit when I was putting it on. Had to run it on low or it was to hot.... Take care, and don't let winter stop you from flying. Jim Chuk

Thanks Jim, that is encouraging information, a large portion of your flying year is most likely in cold weather. I like the idea of the heated seat, especially when slipped inside your snowmobile suit.
Another AirBike flying video, created a week earlier, is posted on my facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10203936569068916&set=vb.1062695613&type=2&theater I am so far unable to post it on youtube. This one has no music, just engine audio. I am flying over some of the same area as the one above but am using different camera positions. I hope to fly this weekend and use two other camera positions, our snow is gone but hopefully there will be opportunities as winter progresses.

Hi Paul.
I couldn't see the facebook video but I really enjoyed the first one. I loved the soundtrack as well!
Thank you for sharing your flights

Hey Paul, don't know if you have the same sales, there as we do, but I see the Menards flyers have a heated seat pad like mine for about $5 after the rebate. I should have picked up a couple of them, but didn't get there yet. Just another thing to think about in the winter flying area, is the battery heated jackets they have available now. I've ordered one from an online outfit. Hope to see it in a few days. It has three heat pads in it and runs off a 7.2 volt lithium battery. On the highest setting it is supposed to run for 2 1/2 hrs. They aren't cheap though. Keep flying, have fun, Jim Chuk

Hi Jim, yes I saw the add for a heated seat for $5 after rebate from Menards. I now have an auxiliary D/C output receptacle in my cockpit. I think I will get one next time I am in town. I would need to replace my well-padded seat cushion with a thinner one as I am out of headroom in my AirBike.

The electric seat pad is very thin. Doubt it would raise you up even 1/4". At least mine is, it came from J C Whitney, but I think the one from Menards is pretty much the same as mine. Jim Chuk
