I was low on gas and time so I made about a 20 min flight. My wife took some photos, and a short video...
The picture of Buddy is included because some of you have seen him in a video of my first Piet. flight, and commented on him.
On a sad note...He was hit and killed a couple hours after this photo was taken along a highway about 3/4 of a mile from our farm....My wife is taking it pretty hard ....
a mile of road will take you a mile, a mile of runway can take you anywhere.

Very sorry for your loss Larry.
I am losing a pet right now (kidney disease), and it sours every day.
Why focus on proving how great you are, when you could focus on becoming better?...

Sorry Larry, a loss of a pet can be almost as sad as losing a child. Hope your wife gets to feeling better. Nice Picts

Larry.....Sorry to hear about Buddy. I can imagine he was quite the constant companion around the farm.
Good to hear about your chance to get in a short flight though. Just seeing your plane turning into your lane/driveway makes me think "You gotta LOVE living in the country!)

Thank You all...Like I said, my wife is closer to the dogs than I am, but it will be a change. Chopper(the other dog) seems lost without his companion
Lynn, I feel very blessed to live in the country and have a place to fly that is right outside my door. I don't like using the road mostly because gravel and wooden props don't mix very well...I just couldn't stand it any longer

Hi Larry, sorry for your dog, I've being through that feeling also, best thing you can do to help your wife is to show up in the house with a new puppy. the joy of the new little one will change her mood much faster.

Hey Dogs are just people in dog clothing. ....LOL..and certainly an important part of any dog loving family...and Im a dog lover too
Best response I can recommend for your wife .....is ...... that you 'found' a 'lost' puppy on your way home...LOL even if its an expensive puppy...... it will be a priceless 'dog' with in weeks of being adopted and a wonderful family member.
also sorry to hear of your Loss ....my dog has only a few months to go...old age and health issues ...and still an adventuring soul a wonderful friend of 14 years...!!
Im already considering the next dog
cheers Arthur

That certainly qualifies as a good news/bad news report. Glad to hear you got in some air time, and so sorry to learn about your dog. All of dog owners lose them eventually, but to lose one so tragically as you did is heartbreaking. It will require considerable recovery time. So sorry for the loss of your pet.

Thanks Ricardo, Arthur, and Paul,
My wife has her days where it really bothers her, and right now no new dog...If I picked one out it would be wrong, so when she is ready we will see.
She decided to have Buddy cremated a decision in part due to the still frozen ground. We won't have him back for a few days yet...
Anyway, hope to get back flying soon. The weather has cooled off here some, but it remains dry so I should have access to the runway soon

Larry, that's a pretty MiniMax. (Hope I typed that correctly) A pretty dog as well.
Some thirty years ago my family was adopted by a golden version of Buddy. She was an adult when she adopted us but she lived another 12 years or so. I know it's sad when you lose a good dog that has been with you so long.
You mention that your wife had Buddy cremated. I mean no disrespect at all, that's why I told you about our dog, but please allow me to tell you a true story about cremating a pet. Perhaps it will give you a moment of mirth.
Our best friend has a niece who lives in northeast Texas. She had a cat that was disguised as a fluffy, white ball of fur. The whole family loved that cat. Fluffy had control of the house for several years.
Then, one day, Fluffy just disappeared. The heart-broken family looked everywhere. They put out posters in all the stores and on lots of light poles and stop signs.
About two weeks later they had still seen no sign of Fluffy and had no clue why. Then, the niece and her husband were about two blocks from their house when they saw it in the road. A flat, white little body. Gingerly, the niece picked up the remains of Fluffy and put her in the back of the Suburban. Once home, they had to decide what to do before the kids got home and saw the pitiful end of Fluffy. They decided to have Fluffy cremated.
They hurried to the vet's office and carried poor, flat Fluffy in, wrapped in a towel to avoid upsetting anyone that might be in the waiting room. They talked with the veterinary, who told them that it would cost $100 to have their pet cremated. They agreed to that and the vet. had an assistant come in to take the pet away.
Before the niece left the vet's assistant came to her and said, "Are you sure you want to pay $100 to have your pet cremated?"
"Oh yes," niece and husband agreed, "that is not too much to pay for Fluffy."
"O.K." the assistant said, and she went back through her door.
Before they could get out the door, the assistant returned and sort of hesitantly said, "I'm sorry to bother you again, but I have to make very sure that you want to spend $100 to have this pet cremated."
"Yes," the niece responded, "we have had Fluffy for several years and the whole family loved her. We do not mind the $100."
"Well," the assistant said, "it's a rabbit."
They didn't pay.
I swear this is a true story. I would not tell it on a Texan except I thought you might enjoy some confirmation that not all us Texans are as sharp as I.
Hope it stays warm and dry for you and that you get your crops in as needed.
Thanks for the pretty pictures.

Sterling,
LOL, that's a good story. Truth be told I wouldn't spend that much let alone a WHOLE lot less to cremate a cat
My MAX isn't as pretty as it use to be. A few years back the fabric was damaged in a fire so it has lots of patches. At some point it needs to be recovered and painted, but for now it does just fine.

Larry, sorry to hear this, I have a dachshund who comes with me everywhere, flies with me or stay in an open car or on his pillow at the airport when I go flying. I am also concerned about his safety, especially due to trike props, but it seems that he learned to stay away from noise and airplanes, runways.
My partner is a trainer for agility, she had a lots of dogs since she was a kid. A loss is very painful and it needs a healing process. Obviously your wife does not want to go thru this pain again, but time will heal, and there is no greatest gift than an other loving pet. I also wonder sometimes that the life span of a human and a pet is very different. It even hurts to think about that.
But we have a great possibility to have many loving friends in our lifes. And there are "friends" out there neglegted who needs our help and love. (I just watched Animal Movers yesterday where 30 wolfs was on chains in Alaska as show, and moved them to California in a place where they can live free safely) Sometimes I wonder how can humans be so cruel to animals.
So people like you and your wife is pretty much needed to give happy life to an other dog.
An other friend will come just in the right time. I am 100% sure.

Peter,
Thanks Living on a farm all my life you see death a lot especially when you have livestock. Pets are special however, and I'm sure we will end up with another pet at some point, but I will let my wife pick one out.
All I ever had were farm dogs that were outside 99% of the time except winter months where they spent their nights in a dog house or in the barn with the pigs(they were right at home with the pigs).
She has always had indoor dogs for the most part. Yes, these were let out to run free, but always were inside at night.
Thanks again.

Uh, Larry, damaged in a fire?
Is that story previously posted here? Sounds like it should be a good one, even if the Max never left the ground.
I agree with that "for now it does just fine." I like things to be pretty, but I'd rather fly than show.
Hope you have another pet by now, and keep the flames down.

Yup, there is...hate looking at these pictures. I flew it twice that summer without fixing any of the holes. I did patch the wings that winter in the basement and the rest that next spring when it warmed up.
We never did come up with a definite cause. I have some theories but that's about it. You notice the fire dept. is absent from the photos. It took them a while to get here.

Well, my wife found a puppy she liked about two weeks ago. It is a rescue dog and is going to be a horse when its fully grown. She left the name it had already been given ( Buppy) Anyway he gets along with the other dog we have for the most part. Things were a little tense for a few days, but that has changed.
