AirBike Ace Flies Again!

Huns and other aggressors who prey from the air on the women and children of the Western Front---Beware!  AirBike Ace from Blue Sky Ranch Aerodrome (35KS) is once again patrolling the skies with his trusty AirBike. His steely sharp blue eyes, steady trigger finger and well-armed WWI wannabe aerial fighter will deal deadly blows to all foes!

Yesterday's rollout and taxi tests at noon were followed by two 30-minute test flights that evening. Some tweaking still needs to be done to solve a few detail concerns, mainly a severely out-of-balance wheel barrow tire. Perhaps they aren't meant to go 35 MPH?

Thanks for all your words of support and concern during the last two months and a week of this rebuild. There were times when the grief of all the work and expense almost overwhelmed me. Your comments kept me going, I want you to know that. You are a fantastic group of aviation supporters! Counting the farmed-out frame straightening and various upgrades, this tip-over cost me about $1800.00.

When faced with this, I briefly considered calling flying the AirBike quits, and concentrating on the Tiger Moth. But, you guys and my hangar mates came through with words that kept me going. You are a fantastic group to belong to!

This AirBike identifies my life and provides too many spin-off activities to stop now. Thanks for those on the Board who supported me and my hangar mates Bill Bailey, Andy Garrett, Chris Duncan, Wayne Clevenger, Krista Long, and Brian FitzGerald.

LOOKING GOOD PAUL. Glad you decided to hang in there. Surely the Huns would have won the day if the Ace was (were?) to be grounded for a lengthy period of time. Fly safely my friend.
DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT GROWING OLDER, IT'S A PRIVILEGE DENIED TO MANY.

Great news and it looks like new!  I would say it's your tenacity to get back in the "fighter" and out there that has inspired the rest of us!

I now have three hours of test flying and practice landings since the rebuild. I am still tweaking things: 1) moved the engine forward 1" during the rebuild; that didn't work out, moved it back to the original position 2) Adjusted brake pedal lever arm to middle hole from the most distant hole thus shortening the lever arm (less pedal travel), 3) one of the wheelbarrow wheels had a bulge and was way out of balance, got a replacement then had the wheel assemblies spin balanced at an ATV shop---very good now.

Won't be long and I will be out of the testing and tweaking phase and ready for a cross-country trip. Hopefully next weekend.

This is such great and inspiring news!  So glad to hear it!
Why focus on proving how great you are, when you could focus on becoming better?...

a mile of road will take you a mile, a mile of runway can take you anywhere.
