2015 Fly Kansas Air Tour
Since 2008, the Kansas Commission on Aerospace Education in partnership with the Kansas Department of Transportation, Division of Aviation has sponsored three air tours. The two recent ones were in 2014, and 2015. I have participated in all three with my AirBike.
This year's tour started in Wellington, Kansas (EGT) on September 29th and terminated at Emporia, Kansas (EMP) on October 1st. Two events followed for those wishing to continue flying, one was breakfast at Beaumont, Kansas (075) and the other was attending the annual EAA Chapter 88 Fly-in in Newton, Kansas (EWK) .
The roughly 800 mile tour connected with ten towns. At each stop host airports encouraged the community members and schools to attend and learn more about opportunities in aviation. Pilots and local aviation facilities provided information and food. Overnight lodging was available each of the three nights.
Thirty-five airplanes participated in the air tour, not all of them flew the total distance but many did. Given the slowness of my AirBike and the speed with which the tour moved, I did not participate in the entire tour, only the first and last legs.
The photos and links below will provide a good idea of what participation in the combined events was like. The purpose of the tour is to promote all aspects of aviation in Kansas.
This is an opportunity to learn a little bit more about Kansas.
