Ahhhh---I needed that!
After four months of bad weather, two cataract surgeries, waiting for prescription glasses (2X), knee joint replacement surgery, associated therapy and medication; I finally flew my AirBike yesterday!
And man, let me tell you that I really needed that flying thrill! I missed it terribly.
Having experienced one of the wettest Spring's on record, (the drought is now considered to be over) crops, lawns, trees, and anything that required moisture; Kansas looks like the Garden of Eden! The photos below illustrate my point.
I made landings at three other grass runways just to do it and at one, visited a fellow who wants to sell his Legal Eagle. We visited awhile then I was off again to enjoy the late afternoon sun and low wind condition at low altitude.
One overhead photo shows the hangars and a house where I my AirBike is located. The Central and Eastern portions of Kansas are absolutely beautiful! What a visually enriching flight this was.
Most of the wheat fields have headed-out and should be ripening within a week or so. One field had already reached that stage, soon combines will gleaning their harvested golden seeds.
On the 25-mile drive home I pass many wheat fields cultivated almost to the road. I couldn't resist stopping to admire the crop and note how the shadows played over the contoured fields. A close-up photo of several wheat shafts provides a view one cannot see from 1000' AGL.
Collectively, the wheat waves gently in the wind and appears to be very soft. Almost like a lake's small waves being gently caressed by the wind. However, individually and up close, the whiskers are pointy and sharp.
I flew for only an hour but there was so much to see and absorb that it seemed longer. Next time out, I will bring fuel with me instead of relying only what remained in the tanks.
Thanks to all of you who continue to post stories about your flight experiences. Those posts buoyed my enthusiasm and attitude while being ground-bound. You will never know just how much!
