Photo Flight

OK, the temperature was 87 degrees (less than my maximum limit) with a heat index of 94 degrees (over my maximum limit) but---close enough!

I hadn't flown for 5 days and that was only a .6 hr test flight following the A.C.I. The prediction for more intense heat was forecasted. Time to go out for a real pleasure flight and attend a pot-luck supper fly-in at a local private grass strip.

A heavy 2" rain the previous night had miraculous results on the crops of beans, corn, cotton, and wheat. My house rainwater collection system reached 650 gallons; that will supply my garden and grass watering activity for awhile.

The flight was only 30 minutes away which included some side trips for sight seeing and photo ops. Reaching the destination, I made the obligatory "high speed" low pass, but mine was with smoke! Always impressive! Nice thing about my low passes, there is plenty of time for people to watch as I go by. Some even go get another soda and still don't miss my pass!

These gatherings with pilots and their families are always pleasant, the host cooks burgers and hot dogs, attendees bring whatever they want. This makes for a wild variety of main dishes, salads, and deserts. It is easy to over-eat at these events.

The three hangars provided shade from the hot setting sun. That is where the band played and people gathered to visit and eat. The event started at 5:00 and went on into the wee hours of the night, I couldn't stay that long so headed home landing at 8:30. That's about 20 minutes before sunset, however with the clear sky, twilight lasted until past 9:00. It would be interesting to fly in that time frame but being that my license is now LSP instead of Experimental, it is off limits.

Enjoy the photos of the area I protect from the Huns in South Central Kansas. Now you can realize why I am so vigilant in preventing them from taking over.

Nice picts Paul. The last few times I have seen your cockpit view one of your egt readings in zero. Are you flying on one cylinder or probably a bad probe . On a side note I am installing oil injection on my a/b. Just finished the oil tank mount then remount the engine along with cowl. I will try to post picts but have had a problem this site rejecting them.

That looks like fun, Paul! Great pics, thanks.

Did you get a chance to try out your radio with the new antenna? Any better?

The jury is still out Bruce. I have yet to have a two-way conversation. However static background noise is down to zero. Some transmissions have been received while flying but they were too garbled to understand where or how far away they were.

Seems like it could be good, then. I'm sure you'll find out soon enough.
