The EAA magazine has an article about Peter Sripol, who built a bi-wing ultralight out of foam board and took it to Oshkosh. In the article, he mentions Mini Max as an inspiration.
See him fly it on Youtube.

What he did was pretty neat, but the engineering in some cases is somewhat questionable. He documented the build in 4 videos which are available in youtube. He has done a few other things and he is pretty creative.

The newest EAA mag has a bigger spread, several pages. Turns out the young man earned an engineering degree and worked for an aircraft design company before returning home to help in his family's restaurant. In his spare time, he tinkers with RC aircraft and built the foam flyer.
The story is corny enough for a 1940's boy-makes-good film but it's all true. Amazing kid.

Yeah, he sure is an amazing kid, I interviewed him at AirVenture so he could be included in an article I wrote for Powered Sport Flying. His dad was there also, and he was just beaming with pride. Great fellow, wonderful personality, and thinks so far out of the box that it isn't even in sight!
