1600 vw engine for vmax

O.k. I have a few questions about the 1600 engine, Since this will be an airplane mount then of course the flywheel isn't going to be in use( unless you mount a starter) there for how to you adjust crankshaft end play? how does this work I know the Glen nut has a torque specification but what about end play on the crank, does this effect internals or like the flywheel and clutch assembly in car applications?

When I experimented with a VW 1600 I got lucky to find a scraped Limbach SL 1700 from an air force glider.I removed the flange at the back of
the crankshaft and installed it on my engine.
This thing looks exactly like the centre of the flywheel.
The easy thing to do would be to cut it out of a vw flywheel and use the shims for end play adjustment.

that may work, it would allow for the flywheel oil seal also and provide a measuring reference for end play adjustments.

I've done that. Cut out the center of the VW flywheel, machined it down and just simply bolted it back on. Serious Weight savings.

There are shims used by VW to set crank endplay. They are readily available.

i dont think you would clear the exhaust with a prop bolted straight to the flange, hence the spacer.
