I think that is a splendid idea.  

I noticed on the form to mention your n number. Thanks eaa so the little people don't  count, sorry this the crap that makes my blood boil.

I don't see a * next to it though, so I don't think its required?

It's not a required field. You don't have to submit an "N" number.

And, the Minimax in the photo doesn't show an N number!

Don't get your "knickers in a twist".  

Even a Part 103 legal ultralight can be registered E-AB and N-numbered if you choose to.  Having or not having an N-number doesn't  make for "little people".

Now,  not registering and A/W-ing a non-legal  "ultralight" (think 2-seater here) does make you a bit of an outlaw,  or as some call them,  "gypsy flier".

I'm curious, with the national spotlight on the event and all the FAA people in attendance, how does EAA handle "fat" ultralights at Oshkosh?  Anybody ever been weighed or ramp-checked?  Not saying I'm planning to break the regs - don't have a final assembled weight yet - but I'd hate to have to rent a truck to haul my airplane back home.  

It's probably a trap.

No!  No one has ever been weighed or checked in any other way by the FAA at the ultralight area at Oshkosh.  The FAA has a "hands off" policy for events like Airventure....you would have to do something really dumb to come to their attention.

EAA's policy toward ultralights is that it's you're responsibility to be legal....not theirs.  This is somewhat as a result of what they did once back in the 80's.  The EAA decided to have an ultralight weigh in before you could fly.  There were planes that came to the weigh station missing engine parts (pistons) and other "non-essential" equipment.  They also discovered that just the dew during the morning added 20 or more pounds to the weight of planes and that every whiff of breeze changed the weight readings.  Much loud complaining resulted in the EAA saying "never again".

The only time I'm aware of the FAA getting involved with a fat ultralight at Oshkosh was a guy who had a very heavy and fast replica of a Gee Bee racer that he flew as an "ultralight".

At Airventure 1998 he flew in with a beautiful little GB model D. His plane was too fast to land on the UL strip so he landed on the main runway.  Unfortunately he blew a tire on landing on the main runway, while no damage was done the incident attracted the attention of the FAA, who then proceeded to weight his plane and find that it was "overweight"!

I can see why they decided to weigh it. It just LOOKS too heavy to be an ultralight.

When is this event? I.. kind of really want to go lol

The dates are July 22 thru the 28. If you have never been, you should attend at least once. For people that are into aviation it is a great experience. It is held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Bring good shoes cause you will need them.

Ah, there's no way my plane will be ready for that by then. It should ideally just.. be getting off the ground right about then.  I don't think a flight from NJ to Oshkosh would be.. ideal. lol

Is there a Mini Max Day? I can't spend an entire week there.

(a) who's taking their Mini Max to Oshkosh this year?

(b) what day should I be there?

I think square edges were anthemas to the builder.

IF I won the lotto.....I would love to bring my Max to the USA....for Oshkosh....who cares about the rules...Im  an Aussie.

Nobody going to Oshkosh for the 35th Anniversary?

I can never go there. It is during the week of our national holidays.
I have two teenage daughters on vacations during those days and the family has other priorities instead of going to Oskosh.
A couple of more years and they will be travelingwith friends and then....Oskosh will be within reach. Wife is not a problem .
In the mean time I just have to be patiente.  

I will be there, however the pacific is just a little too far for my Vmax so will leave it home. Hope to catch up with some of you..

Would you like to post some pictures of your V max.Seems like the least popular of the maxes. Is the performance adequate ?

There was a picture of my V-Max on the team site under 1550 v-max, Its the dark blue one , has tips and wheel pants now. Powered by a 1700 cc limbach engine (ex Motor Falke)
It flys well, cruises at 68 to 70 knots and is a little under pitched so climbs well.

Got it. 19-8016.Too nice.Altough am not a fan of the enclosed modification.
I am split between a 1500 and vmax. cant seem to decide.What speed do you use to unstick and the stall and approach speeds. Any peculiar flying tendency as compared to the lighter minimax?  climb rate? I have a crank from a falke SL1700 which I modified for a 1/2vw long ago.The crank is a standard vw part.The prop hub is a taperfit.The limbach SL1700 looks like a ordinary vw engine except for the magneto or maybe yours is a one off special.

Any photos of MiniMAXs from Oshkosh???

We arrived on Monday and attended the event on Tuesday. I saw one Mini-Max there by the Red Barn and it was N numbered. I did not get a picture but it was a very nice airplane. They had T-shirts with the Mini-Max 35th anniversary on the front for sale at the Red Barn so I bought one. Dave from Team was there with the two place version and I spoke with him and he said the airplane is very close to flying.It was very busy and we only stayed one day.The cost to attend the event is getting hard to justify, but it is still the greatest airplane show in the world in my book. If you like airplanes and flying it is a must do.

Any other Max's in attendance?

Unhappily I was only there for the one day so I do not know if there were any more Mini-Max airplanes there later in the week.
