August Flight

Sometimes life just gets in the way of my flying, perhaps yours too.

This has been a sparse year for flying; a combination of household tasks, weather, and in some cases the Covid-19 virus. It had been almost a month since my last flight and I haven't gone to a single fly-in this summer at all. What a shame!

Well, on Wednesday, the stars and moon aligned, the wind was at an acceptable limit and in the right direction too. Time to go flying! So off I went for a one hour personal satisfaction flight within about a 15 mile radius of my home field.

The photos describe what I saw. From a quick look at my home field through the wing struts, sighting down on a friend's farm, observing patterns in the fields, and noticing a new type of farm. That was a solar farm!

Hope you enjoy the photos and if necessary, use them as an inspiration/excuse to take flight.

Dont let life get in the way of flying Paul. Flying IS living.

I was getting worried not seeing any post from you in some time. Was going to send the cops over for a welfare check.

I thought the Huns must have taken you prisoner. Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks for your concerns regarding the welfare check and the Huns. I am good on both counts, matter of fact, I got airborne again last night for another one hour flight. The temps and winds were appropriate but the humidity was high and there was a lot of haze in the sky at 1000 feet AGL. The attached photo was taken at about 500 feet and looking down at a steep angle. That minimized the haze. Flying into the sun was terrible because of the flare, for awhile I was vulnerable to attack from anyone diving at me out of the sun. I would have been an easy target. But, I think the Huns were already bedded down for the night and drinking beer out of their ceramic flasks.

A note about the photo, I can't even cut my lawn with such precision, how does a guy on a tractor do this?

Paul, It's not uncommon for today's farmers to use GPS guided tractors, and planters. Thanks for posting the pictures. I haven't flown this year either for many reasons, and no, Covid wasn't one of them. I just ordered $1300.00 worth of Rotax parts yesterday to build up an engine. Maybe I'll get in the air before cold weather gets here?
