Has anyone looked at the Polini thor 202 or 303
or the Simonini mini 2s or the mini 3 as a replacement for the rotax or hirth engines.

It seems like they would work well on Mini-Maxes. I've heard good things about them. I really like that they are water cooled. Jon Croke, Kitplanes Magazine author, is putting one on an Affordaplane he's building. I'm not aware of anyone fitting one on a Mini-Max though.

The Polini engines are being used by Badlands Aircraft on their ultralight and by Fisher on theirs.  So far I've had no first hand comments on them.

If the old Be-lite site is still up it had a lot of good things to say-- and a video on how to fix brittle exhaust parts that broke.

There is a factory aluminum ring mount with miniature Lords for Thor 202 and 250s which is lighter than any of my 6061 plate and angle bed mounts.

I think Mike Sandlin (Bluebird, Bloop) and those who have powered his Goat design have used both Polini and Simonini 250 class engines as well as Vittorazi 185s.

At the price it would cost to obtain one, I won't be doing so. But, thanks to Polini I have picked up a couple orphaned Rotax 250s.

Having many hours in F-33 powered Cloudster. Zing, and Woodhopper, and some time in a 277 powered FP-505, I have decided to build an airplane.

I am almost done mounting a Simonini Victor 1 Super on my MiniMax. 54HP water cooled.
Using dual radiators from a Rotax 503.

what do those victor1 engines run, price-wise?

The Victor 1 Super was about $6400.

I started it for the first time this weekend

I was impressed with how smooth it runs, especially at higher RPM.

If you want to contact the USA dealer use WhatsApp and his Mexico phone number.  He has always been quick to respond using WhatsApp
His email is unlimitedaltitude@gmail.com

I'll be sure to have a full report and some videos once I get back in the air and have some experience with the engine.
