First flight of 2023

Us Kansans were blessed with another good day for flying on January 9th. Temps were above 55 degrees and winds light---good flying weather! Departing Cherokee Strip (18KS) I flew a quasi-rectangular ground track for an hour and just enjoyed the scenery and the satisfaction of flying my AirBike. With a little help from the winds at 1000 feet AGL my bug smasher got up to 77 MPH!

The photos describe our mostly barren landscape and somewhat cloudy and overcast sky. Occasionally the sun poked through and made scenery brighter. About the time I landed, Chris Duncan was at the hangar preparing his Pietenpol for a short around the patch flight before sunset. This timing allowed me to get a few photos of him flying.

Hope you enjoy the photos, we all look forward to the greening-up of the landscape and more water in the Arkansas River and longer flights as Spring approaches.

it certainly was a great evening, Im glad I got out in time to enjoy it. Thanks for the Pics! I always thought the Piet's cockpit was cramped and seeing myself in there confirms that I'm not wrong!

When in doubt just use full throttle.... it might not help but it will end the suspense.
