VW Engine Temperature Monitoring

Regarding temperature monitoring on my 1835cc VW motor being built by Scott Casler, I'm wondering if I need to monitor all four cylinders.  My inclination is to monitor CHT and EGT on all four.  Scott says that's possible but a compromise might be to monitor CHT on the rear cylinders and alternate sides for EGT---on one front cylinder and one rear.

The engine will be cowled and have a top-mount Weber carb.

Of course, I'll also be monitoring oil pressure and temperature.

What is your experience and thoughts on monitoring engine cylinder temperatures?  Thanks!

David,
A single EGT and CHT should be sufficient. As to where to put them, the CHT should be on a rear cylinder and the EGT should be on whichever cylinder has the longest intake length. monitoring all 4 for EGT will just show you how inneficient VW intake setups are a distributing an equal fuel/air mixture to every cylinder. I would like to see some pictures of your carb setup when scott gets it done too! im still looking to improve mine.

When in doubt just use full throttle.... it might not help but it will end the suspense.

Thanks, Chris.   I'm sure the VW is pretty inefficient on the fuel mixture distribution!   It would be pretty difficult for me to not monitor all four cylinders, though, based on flying certified engines.  I'll let you know about the carb setup.  As you know, it'll be the top-mount "newer" Weber model.
